Calcium hydroxylapatiteRadiesse is calcium hydroxylapatite in a gel carrier. Used undiluted it gives immediate structure where contour is genuinely missing, most often along the jawline and chin, with a collagen response arriving behind the initial result.
Radiesse is firmer than most hyaluronic acid fillers and holds its shape well against the pull of surrounding tissue. That makes it suited to the jawline, the chin and the lower face, where the job is to re-establish a border that has softened rather than to add softness.
The result has two parts arriving at different times. The gel carrier gives structure on the day. Over the following months that carrier resorbs while the calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres stimulate collagen, so the structure is progressively handed over from product to tissue.
Both add volume, and the choice comes down to the area and the trade-offs you prefer.
Irreversibility is the real consideration. It is why Radiesse is placed conservatively and in regions where the anatomy is predictable.
The product is mixed with lidocaine and placed in the deep plane, usually along the jawline border or at the chin, through a needle or cannula depending on the area. Most of the swelling settles within a few days, and any bruising at entry points fades in about a week.
Questions
Neither is better; they do different jobs. Radiesse is firmer, more supportive and stimulates collagen, but it cannot be dissolved. Hyaluronic acid is softer, adjustable and reversible. The area being treated usually decides it, and lips are always hyaluronic acid.
Commonly a year or more, and the collagen stimulated alongside it can extend the apparent result beyond the life of the product itself.
No. There is no enzyme that dissolves calcium hydroxylapatite the way hyaluronidase dissolves hyaluronic acid. It resorbs gradually on its own. This is why it is dosed conservatively and used in areas where the anatomy is predictable.
No. Lips are treated with hyaluronic acid filler, which is softer and reversible.
